Counting Down!
Well nothing much has been happening lately it is more about the future! I have been bringing the boys nack into work over the last month with just lunging and hacking. I have my first lesson of the season on Echo on Sunday so hopefully all goes well! I am really pleased with how well the boys are retaining their weight and muscle. I have my first lesson on Kirby next Saturday with Judith :)
The first show of the season is the Winter Woolies show on 27th Spetember with Kirby (Nathan's Star)
Here we come!

Naughty and Nice
Well it was a very mixed horsey day today. I took Echo out for a road ride and all was going well in the beginning, he was trotting every now and then but I got him back down to a walk. On the way home he stopped for a wee and got left behind. He hates not being in front and he started jig jogging and would not walk. So I turned him in a circle until he walked and after about 20mins it finally worked. Then we came to a grass verge and he started off again even faster so I did the one rein stop and he turned his head but would not relax so I held it there until he would give it to me but he decide that he would rip it back around and rear up full height with me on him! Iv never been on a horse when it has reared up full height before and he has never reared with me on him before. He was doing it because he could not get his own way and iv never challenged that side of him before. So he did some collection work on the way home and when we got home it was cover and tail bag on and straight back into the paddock! No dinner for the naughty pony!
Next I got Kirby out and decided to give him a lunge. Last time I lunged him he was bucking and kicking out and cantering all over the place as he had been out of work for a while so I thought I would lunge him to see if he had gotten it all out of his system. His trot is coming along beautifully and his canter is getting there. So I decided to have a little play with him. I did some walking and then some trotting work. It was horrid at first he was all over the place and it was fast then slow then stop. After a few minutes though he got into it and started collecting and really did himself proud. The farrier arrived just as I was finishing and said he looked beautiful and was carrying himself very well. So don't worry Mel you wont be the only standie girl out there showing this season with a standie star! Cant wait!!!!

Woodhill Sands SJ 31.05.09
Well today we headed off to Woodhill Sands SJ. I entered in the 80cm and 90 cm we were waiting for ages as there seemed to be a lot of green horses. I warmed up and even though Echo was felt really fast he felt really good going over the jumps. I went in for my round and he felt really zoomy :) I was counting out his strides for him as he can sometimes loose his rhythm, he went beautifully over the double. We got a clear round and went on for the jump off and he knew it was down to strategy and time. He grazed the first jump and I was silly and looked back at it and lost all concentration. I forgot the next jump and I am not very fit at the moment and I was very tired, so I decided to retire and give the 90cm a miss. I also need to learn to breath, give him his head, and put my hands forward so he can round himself and be more comfortable. But all in all I am not at all disappointed. He did exactly what I wanted him to do and the most important thing was that he both had fun :) Below is a video of my SJ round. Please feel free to criticise :)
